Take a spin on the traditional V-Day cards for the classroom and craft these little critters! Your kids will love crafting these cute little guys and love handing them out as Valentines to their classmates!
What you will need:
- Yarn (thicker yarn works better)
- Glue Gun
- Pom Pom Maker
- Plastic Eyes
- Mini Pom Poms (for the nose)
- Fuzzy pipe cleaner (and the arms!)
Step 1: Take your pom pom maker and open it up like in example above. Start to wrap your yarn around the pom pom maker. Start on the side closest to the grey middle. Wrap the entire side, close that side then repeat on the other side. When you are done with the other side close it as well. Then cut off the excess yarn.
Step 2: Flip your pom pom maker to the side and start to cut the yarn down the middle. Repeat on both sides. Next cut off a piece of yarn and pull it through the pom pom maker to the other side.
Then tie a knot at the top and pull it through until you cannot pull it anymore. Repeat 2x times. Next open your maker up again and pull apart the middle piece to release your pom pom.
Your pom pom should look like this. Cut off the extra long pieces of yarn and then just fluff up and trim all around your pom pom to make it as even and round as possible.
Step 3: Now you are ready to start making your little critters. Start by making your personalized V-Day messages. You can cut out your own hearts and write/stamp them or use a paper puncher. I chose to use my paper puncher and stamp them. Next put some hot glue on the back of your message and place it on the pom pom. Place it more towards the bottom on the pom pom leaving some room for your critters face.
Next glue on the eyes and nose (mini pom poms). Then cut some small pieces of fuzzy pipe clear and put some glue on the end and put on either side of the pom pom. Fold the arms a little bit so that your critter is holding the V-Day message. Put some glue on the end so that it will stick to the paper.
Help your kids make as many as they want and pass them out for Valentines Day! You can personalize them as much as you want by using felt or fuzzy pipe cleaners to make ears or whatever else!
